Author Junot Diaz tells Bill Moyers how libraries inspired him

In a recent video interview, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Junot Diaz (“The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao”) Junot Diaz eloquently described the influence of libraries in his life.

He tells Moyers that at six, he had his first library experience. It surprised and inspired him, he said, that he could take out “any of these books I wanted.

“It was an astonishing thing for a young kid who grew up in a society like Santo Domingo — where I didn’t have access to libraries — to be told, ‘this belongs to all of us.’
